October's Thriller..... kind of....but just not too scary!

First off, welcome to Robyn, who joined us for the first time this month, we hope you'll enjoy reading along side us and sharing your thoughts and ideas.  Kirsty was missed greatly, we hope we can steal you away once more before you head up to the land of the scots.

This months book was:

'The Killing place' by Tess Gerritsen
Synopis: In Wyoming, the quaintly-named village of Kingdom Come is snowed in, and twelve identical houses are abandoned and in darkness. Cars, similarly, are abandoned. Where are all the human inhabitants? The snowstorm has marooned Maura Isles – and the private road that took her to the village has also led her into a frightening and disturbing puzzle. Subsequently, Jane Rizzoli arrives to find a car containing four bodies, all burnt to a crisp. Is one of the corpses Maura Isles?

Rizzoli and Isles often find themselves investigating gruesome and baffling murder mysteries – very much the case here, but with Isles missing from the investigative team. As the tension is screwed ever tighter, it’s clear that, as ever, Tess Gerritsen has the full measure of the crime genre at her fingertips. Both her heroines – women who have to fight to remain at the top of their professions – are capable, but it’s Jane Rizzoli who is, in The Killing Place , stretched to her limits. We thought we'd try something a little different this month as it's spooky October.... a mystry thriller.... and in deed it was.  A fasinating book which from the start you think...eeeewww..and 'what the heck?'.  Definatley had me gripped, and loved the twist at the end.  This book trluy isn't what you think it is when you start out.  Very cleverly written, good, believable characters and a very intriguing storyline.  If you haven't read it already, then curl up in bed one night and do so.

Hummm...what happened to this month? Anyone caught it yet?

Well this month's bookclub was a little bit different...i wouldn't say it was a disater...perhaps non existant in terms of talking about the book...BUT i'm pleased to say it was exchanged for a super activity...the ward temple trip! So in a way we were 'paying it forward' in our acts of service to those who've gone ahead. Thanks for making it a blissful night.  We've decided because it's been too tricky to get us all together, we'd post our thoughts here.

So, anyway, this month's book was 'Pay it Forward'.  What did we all think?

Summer's long gone....

Well we had another lovely night...a little low on numbers (you were missed ladies who couldn't make it...but hope you had super nights).

We all enjoyed the book, some felt it left her feeling like she wanted more though.  We thought it was very well written and fairly easy to read...even if some had to use more brain cells than others to keep track of all the characters. The characters and their experiences were very real to life- apart from the whole going back in time!

The book was funny in places, sad in places, unbelieveable in paces and overall a very good read!

Our next book will be...

'Pay it forward' by Catherine Ryan Hyde
Synopis: It all started with the social studies teacher's extra-credit project: Think of an idea for world change, and put it into action. Whilst this proved a little ambitious for most of his classmates, twelve-year-old Trevor thought he would start by doing something good for three people. But instead of paying him back, he would ask them to "pay it forward" by doing a favour for three more people. If it all went to plan, Trevor thought, it would be the start of a long chain of human kindness ...Sound unlikely to you? Well a lot of other people had their doubts too - Trevor's teacher, his classmates, his mother, in fact everyone in his small California town. It could never really work...could it?

Opinions, Chocolate fountains and Summer Reading....

FIRST THINGS FIRST....
We enjoyed a mountain fountain of chocolate last night! Srummy!

Thanks to all who came to this months book club...it was a hoot! We enjoyed discussing the book.  All enjoyed the book... (apart from Kirsty-who's first time it was-but is now looking forward to catching up!).  I think i'm right in saying the concensus was that it was a easy read, good characters, but lacked a little in emotion.  A few felt it could have done with perhaps one more chapter to kind of wrap things up...it kind of just ended.  But all in all---an enjoyable book... tissues needed.  Plans to see the film at the end of the month...so keep your eye's and ears out for date and time.

So, after a wondeful night last night, we've decided to take the whole of the summer to read a rather appropriate book...
'The Summer House' by Jude Deveraux.Alittle thicker than lasts months with 416 pages.

Synopis: Best friends for nearly twenty years, three women, all with the same birthday, plan to get together at a summerhouse in Maine to celebrate their approaching fortieth birthdays by taking stock of their lives, loves, choices, and dreams.

Our first book club choice...

Wednesday was great-thanks ladies.  So after much chat and deliberation we've decided that our first book for the club will be   'A Walk to Remember' by NIcolas Sparks. A short novel to begin with (256 pages), and worth a read.

Synopsis: The last person Landon thought he would fall for was Jamie Sullivan, daughter of the town's Baptist minister. A quiet girl, Jamie seemed content living in a world apart from the other teens. She took care of her widowed father, rescued hurt animals and volunteered at the local orphanage. Landon would never have dreamed of asking her out, but a twist of fate threw them together when he found himself without a partner for the school dance. In the months that followed, Landon discovered truths that most people take a lifetime to learn - about the joy of giving, the pain of loss and, most of all, the transforming nature of love. Being with Jamie would show him the depths of the human heart and lead him to a decision so stunning it would send him irrevocably on the road to manhood ...
